Three Colors Blue

  •  1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.
In class we discussed, the usage of colors in this film as well as Director Krzysztof Kieslowski style of filming. His usage of blues and colors added to the dramatic story of her life. The scenes where she was in the pool show blues and how she is in deep meditation. The way the film was edited shows many different angels from her point of view and adds emotion to the film so that you can feel apart of her life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       2) Find a related article and summarize the content.

This article can be summarized in short that the film is about a woman who is grieving the loss of her husband and child. It also points out how she is a brick and takes all of the pain fairly well. Even when she finds out that her husband was not faithful she still forgives and moves on. It talks about how she was in part composing with her famous husband who passed away in a car accident. For her to seem so devastated in this movie was shocking being that he was reliant on her to create music which, no one knew. The film was very deep and emotional.

    3) Apply the article to the film screened in class.

The article helped me summarize the films meaning. In a sense it gives meaning the film from beginning, climax and to the ending of the story. The liberty, equality and fraternity was something I did not pick up when watching the film but after reading the article, it made sense. It is a very mysterious film and it took me reading this article to see further into the depths of it.

    4) Write a critical analysis of the film, including your personal opinion,  formed as a result of the screening, class discussions, text material and the article.

The start of the film was very dramatic when seeing the car accident. I liked the way it was filmed and the cuts from long shot, to establishing shots to then extreme close ups. This drew me into the film and the main actress Juliette Binoche. I got a feel of how she must be feeling after loosing her family, the fact that she had no one and went on with no care in the world except missing them shocked me. She still never really broke down yet, went on to find her place in the world and took it as it came to her. We did not find out until later in the film how much of an important role she played to her famous composer husband. She still went on and lived her life humble. For me, she played a powerful character and that spoke to me. She even went to visit her mother but never stayed. She moved around, left and did what she wanted. Her mission was set out before her and she embarked on whatever path needed to be taken for her own fulfillment.
